In a stunning reversal of fortunes, the Mercedes cars outclassed Red Bull in Mexico with Bottas on Pole and Hamilton P2. Max and Checo are P3 and P4 respectively.

Bottas shines in Mexico

Mercedes seemed to be on a backfoot in all the practice sessions. Mexico race track is located 2200 meters above the sea level. The air is thin and the engines gasp for more oxygen. Even historically it has never suited Mercedes. In Q1 and Q2 the Red Bull cars were comfortably ahead of the Mercs. However things changed in Q3. Mercedes was finally able to get the right setup for their cars in the final qualifying session. The Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas put in a scintillating lap in his first run and that was more than enough to get him the Pole position.

VALTTERI: “Honestly that first run in Q3 was one of my best laps. It’s a good feeling”#MexicoGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/F7op8r9nNn
— Formula 1 (@F1) November 6, 2021

Lewis Hamilton struggled in all the practice sessions. However he put in a good lap when it mattered the most but still could not match his team-mate Bottas. He will be starting P2, from the front row. Lewis is currently 12 points behind Max and will be eager to close the gap.

LEWIS: "Valtteri did an amazing job! He's been driving so well in the last few races

"We didn't think we had the pace this weekend, so to lock out the front row is pretty special!"#MexicoGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/ouFhsjIHCC
— Formula 1 (@F1) November 6, 2021

Red Bull missed the mark

Red Bull were the favorites even before we came to the track. The high altitude suits their Honda engine relatively better. There were very high hopes from home boy Sergio Perez as he is in a potentially race winning car for the first time since his F1 career started. Mexico boy Checo topped the timing sheets from FP3 and the crowd went wild in anticipation. Red Bull were quick in all the practice sessions and in Q1 and Q2. However things just didn’t work out in Q3, when it mattered.

Max missed the mark in the first run of Q3 as Bottas put in a fantastic lap. He was able to string a very good lap in the final run but then Yuki Tsunoda went off the track, pushing his car too much. This caused Checo to lose concentration too and Max slowed down anticipating a Yellow flag, losing around 3/10th in the process. He will be starting P3 on the track tomorrow. However he is on the clean side of the track and the starting line is very long. So he will be anticipating to make a few moves on turn 1.

MAX: “Qualifying didn’t go our way but there’s still a lot to fight for [on Sunday]”#MexicoGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/9LgiaFzXhJ
— Formula 1 (@F1) November 6, 2021

Checo missed the chance to get Pole position in front of his home crowd in Mexico. He will be starting P4. Red Bull pace is good on the long run and would like to move up against Mercedes soon. Checo would be very happy with a podium finish. A race win would be just crazy.

Ferrari boys doing better than McLaren boys

Ferrari just seemed to have an edge over McLaren as their engine suits better at this high altitude track. Carlos Sainz put in a fine lap to finish P6. Charles Leclerc, despite having setup issues looked very good in the Quali session. But he missed the mark in the final run and finished P8.

Daniel seems to have find some form although both the McLaren cars were looking very much out of touch in the practice sessions. He finished P7. Lando is taking Engine penalty, so will be starting from the back, despite his P10 finish.

Gasly back in form

Pierre Gasly has driven very well throughout the season but luck has eluded him time and again. Not this time though. He put in a great lap, partly thanks to his team mate Yuki Tsunoda who gave him a nice tow in the first run. He finished P5 just behind the Mercs and the Red Bulls. Yuki also finished P9 although he will be starting from the back thanks to Engine penalties.

Dominant Bottas at Turkish GP

Valtteri Bottas drove a faultless race in tricky wet conditions to win the 2021 Turkish GP. He started from Pole and was in control throughout the race. As he said it himself – it was one of his best race ever. The outgoing Mercedes driver ensured to not only win the race but also got the fastest lap. Mercedes thus continuing to lead the Constructors standing by a big margin.

VALTTERI: “It’s been a while. It feels good. From my side, that’s one of the best races I’ve had. It’s not easy to choose the strategy here in these conditions. It feels like a well-earned victory” #TurkishGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/mAJFeZzBd5
— Formula 1 (@F1) October 10, 2021

Happy Red Bull

Red Bull had a special livery this weekend to celebrate their association with Honda. The two Red Bulls in special white colours finished P2 and P3. Max started the race P2 and finished in the same position. He just didn’t have the pace to catch up the raging Mercedes of Bottas. The conditions were very tricky and no one except Vettel even tried to get on the slicks throughout the race. Any slight mistake could have been very dangerous. So it was best to play the safe game, bring home the cars and get the points. Thanks to Lewis finishing in P5, Max regains the Drivers Championship lead, albeit by only 6 points.

MAX: "It was not easy today! I'm happy to finish second, in these conditions it would have been easy to get it wrong"#TurkishGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/Dit9iTwAEd
— Formula 1 (@F1) October 10, 2021

Meanwhile Sergio Perez had a perfect drive and finished on the podium, something that Red Bull expects from him on a regular basis. He managed the pace well and ensured to keep Lewis behind him as much as possible. He once his tyre management skills once again and would be looking forward to all the races in the Americas, especially his home race in Mexico.

SERGIO: “It was just one of those races to be patient.
Lewis spectacular but missed on strategy

Thanks to the 10-place grid penalty, Lewis Hamilton started P11, after being the fastest in the Quali yesterday. As the race started he charged quickly through the field but was held for a few places by Tsunoda and then by Perez. He was managing his pace extremely well on those worn-out Inters and had reached till P3, but then his team called him in, against his wishes, putting him in P5. There wasn’t much left in the race to recover from that position. He would be disappointed to not finish on the podium.

Ferrari boys did well

Carlos Sainz started from the back of the grid and charged super quickly till P11. But then he struggled moving forward and yet finished P8. He was voted the ‘Driver of the Day’.

Charles Leclerc drove a fantastic race too and managed to stay in P3 position for most of the race and even lead the race of few laps. Eventually he lost the position to Perez but still would be very happy with P4.

Gasly had a first lap collision with Alonso and was thus awarded a 5 second penalty. Still he managed to finish P6, gaining some valuable points. Lando Norris had a quiet race and would be content with P7. Stroll and Ocon finished P9 and P10 respectively.

Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas had a clean start and won the Monza Sprint comfortably. Max will get the Pole though and Lewis will be starting P4.

Bottas however has engine penalty and thus will be starting from the back of the grid. He will get 3 points though and seemed to have accepted the situation.

Monza Pole for Max

Max Verstappen, starting from P3, had a great start and was able to jump Lewis and get behind Bottas. However he just could not catch up with the Finnish driver, Mercedes clearly having better pace than the Red Bulls and others. Max would still be happy as he will be starting from Pole tomorrow and he took 2 points too.

MAX: "That went better than expected. We had a good start, and of course I'll be starting from pole tomorrow.

Horrible start for Lewis

Lewis had a nightmare start as his tires slipped and he fell behind. He started P2 but by the end of first lap he was in P5 position. Throughout the race he was behind Lando but was unable to overtake him. Lewis neither scored points nor is he starting from the front. He is naturally disappointed.

Great day for McLaren boys

Both the McLarens had a good Quali session with Lando in P4 and Daniel P5. However things turned out to be even better as the Sprint started. Daniel was able to jump two positions, overtaking Lewis team-mate Lando and staying in the P3 position for the rest of the race. Given the penalty to Bottas, Daniel will be starting from P2, the front row of the grid, after a very very long time. He was visibly happy.

Lando would be happy with the result too. He drove brilliantly, keep the charging Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton at bay for the entire Sprint Race. He will be starting P3 tomorrow.

Disaster for Gasly

Gasly, the last year’s Monza winner and someone who is having a great 2021 season ran out of luck. A slight touch with the McLaren broke his front wing and he ended up crashing in the barriers. He will be starting from the back of the grid too and hoping to make places quickly.

Ferrari boys would be fairly happy as both Charles and Carlos will be starting P5 and P6 tomorrow. They will be happy if they can maintain these positions in front of tifosi.

Perez had another day to forget. He started from P9, slipped to P10 and then regained P9. However he was unable to move any further, something that Red Bull would have surely hoped for. Meanwhile Antonio Giovinazzi had another very good performance, keeping the Red Bull of Checo behind him and making a strong case for the second Alfa Romeo seat.

Here is the full starting lineup for the 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Monza with Max at Pole

The outgoing Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas snatched the Pole position at the Monza Quali. Lewis Hamilton came P2, so a Mercedes front row lockout for the Sprint. Championship leader Max Verstappen is P3.

Bottas snatches Pole at the Monza Quali

It must be noted that Monza has the Sprint race format i.e. Quali on Friday which decides the grid for Sprint race on Saturday, which will then decide the grid for the main race.

At the temple of speed the flying Finn Bottas steamed ahead and got P1, despite being ahead of his team-mate Lewis Hamilton and not getting the tow from him. Lewis failed to stitch together that perfect lap and was just 0.096s behind Bottas. Mercedes was already looking very good in FP1 and they will have a front row lockout.

VALTTERI: “That qualifying lap was nice. It was good fun… I feel relaxed.

It must be noted though that Bottas will be taking a penalty for getting a new Power unit and will be starting from the back of the grid in the main Race.

Tough day for Red Bull

Historically the high speed Monza circuit has not suited Red Bull and it was the case this time too. Max Verstappen pushed hard and got a good tow from Checo but he couldn’t surpass the two Mercs. He will be starting P3 in the Sprint Race. Checo had yet another lackluster performance, coming in at P9. He will be hoping to make up places in the Sprint.

MAX: “For us around this track it’s always going to be difficult. I’m still happy to be third here” #ItalianGP #F1 pic.twitter.com/pkqhZrRkUf
— Formula 1 (@F1) September 10, 2021

Both McLaren and both Ferrari in Q3

McLaren with their Mercedes engine showed impressive pace. Lando stitched a nice lap together and will be starting P4. McLaren would be very happy to see Daniel finally getting to know the MCL35 well and showing consistent good result. He will be starting P5.

Monza is the home ground for Ferrari. Unlike last year this time the tifosi will come out in huge numbers at the track and they will be expecting strong performance from the Prancing Horse. A victory like 2019 is unlikely but there are some reasons to be happy about. Both the Ferrari drivers pushed their cars to the limit and managed to get into Q3, with Carlos in P7 and Charles in P8. Expect them to do well in the Sprint and Main Race.

Gasly, Mr. Consistent

Gasly has been very very consistent in all the races this year and Monza is no exception. He drove very well and managed to be P6, a place where one does not expect Alpha Tauri to be. Contrast that with his rookie team-mate Yuki Tsunoda who couldn’t even get out of Q1. Both of them have fresh contracts for 2022 though.

Antonio Giovinazzi had a very good performance again at his home race. He managed to get into Q3, back to back, making a strong case for the second seat at AlfaRomeo for 2022.

Traffic chaos at Monza, again

Monza being a high-speed circuit, everyone is looking for a tow. This leads to unnecessary traffic and can be dangerous at times. Cars were jostling for space on the race-track as well as in the pit-lane. Both Aston Martin and Alpine have been fined 5000 euros for unsafe release in the pit-lane. FIA needs to find some solution for this chaos.

Monza Quali : Bottas leading the way

Bottas, 32, will effectively be replacing Finnish countryman Kimi Raikkonen, who retires at the end of the season, at Alfa Romeo after five seasons as Lewis Hamilton’s team-mate.

Alfa Romeo say he has signed a multi-year deal.

Mercedes chiefs had spent F1’s August break deciding whether to re-sign Bottas for another year or promote Russell, their 23-year-old junior driver who has impressed at Williams and starred in a one-off appearance for them in place of Hamilton when the world champion was sidelined by Covid-19 last December.

“This hasn’t been an easy process or a straightforward decision for us,” said Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. “Valtteri has done a fantastic job over the past five seasons. He has made an essential contribution to our success and to our growth.”

Russell set to join Mercedes

Russell revealed at Dutch GP he had been told ahead already been told where he would be driving next year.

An announcement confirming Russell’s move is expected to follow later this week, rather than on Monday too.

Bottas has won nine races and claimed 17 pole positions in 92 starts for Mercedes. Alfa Romeo are ninth in this year’s Constructors’ Championship but are aiming for a big step forward in the first year of F1’s new design rules in 2022.

“The potential of the setup in Hinwil is clear and I am relishing the opportunity to help lead the team forward up the grid, especially with the new regulations in 2022 giving the team a chance to make a leap in performance,” said Bottas.

“I’m grateful for the trust the team has put in me and I cannot wait to repay their faith: I’m as hungry as ever to race for results and, when the time comes, for wins.”

Bottas did a good job but as a wingman

A former GP3 champion, Bottas arrived at Mercedes in January 2017 from Williams as the replacement for Nico Rosberg. Nico had shocked the F1 world by retiring from the sport within days of winning the 2016 world title.

Having had to manage an increasingly tense and fractious relationship between Hamilton and Rosberg over the previous few seasons as the pair exclusively duelled for the world titles, the arrival of Bottas changed the intra-team dynamic and he established a strong working relationship with his new British team-mate.

The Finn, already a nine-time podium finisher at Williams, won the first three races of his career in 2017. He quickly became a reliable foil to Hamilton, who won his fourth world crown that season.

Bottas was consistently respectfully close to Hamilton in qualifying in particular. He helped Mercedes to their last four drivers’ and constructors’ championship doubles. However Bottas has not mounted a season-long title challenge over a full campaign. His last win came at last September’s Russian GP.

Difficult to ignore Russell anymore

Meanwhile, Russell showed great promise in three seasons towards the back of the grid at Williams. Plus he was able to jump into Mercedes’ car straight away in Bahrain last year and outrace the Finn. He has seemingly ultimately proved too tempting a chance to pass up for another season.

Reflecting on his successful years at the team in an article published by the Brackley outfit, Bottas said: “When I look back on my time with Mercedes, I want to be able to say that I squeezed every drop out of this opportunity and left nothing on the table; and I want to make sure that we finish our time together as champions.

“It has been a privilege and a great sporting challenge to work with Lewis. The harmony in our relationship played a big part in the constructors’ championships we won as teammates. Later this year, the time will come to say goodbye that’s not for now. I would like to thank Toto and the team for the respect in how we took the decision together.”

Wolff, who has long been associated with Bottas’ career, added: “Together with Lewis, he has built a benchmark partnership between two team-mates in the sport, and that has been a valuable weapon in our championship battles and pushed us to achieve unprecedented success.

Hamilton has consistently spoken of his admiration for Bottas as a team-mate. He posted a heartfelt message on social media after the announcement confirming that the Finn would be moving on.

A fresh chapter for Bottas at Alfa Romeo

But now heading for a new challenge at Alfa Romeo, the identity of Bottas’ next partner is not yet clear. There are numerous drivers including incumbent Antonio Giovinazzi and Red Bull reserve Alex Albon in the frame for the second seat.

Having endured his worst start to an F1 season since joining Mercedes and following a race-ending crash last time out with George Russel at Imola, Bottas returned to form at Portuguese GP as he swept to his first pole since the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix.

Neither Mercedes driver was able to improve in the final runs of Q3. However, the Finn’s best lap – a 1m18.348s – saw him pip Hamilton by just 0.007s.

Bottas’ fastest Q3 effort ended up being slower than what Hamilton had set on the Medium tyres in Q2 but it was just enough to seal the 16th pole of his F1 career and act as a welcome confidence boost.

Red Bulls lacking the power

Max Verstappen was third-fastest after an error on his first lap of Q3 resulted in the Red Bull driver seeing his best lap – which would have been good enough for pole – deleted for track limits, before the Dutchman’s final Q3 lap saw him wind up almost 0.4s adrift.

Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez was a further tenth back in fourth, ahead of Carlos Sainz, who claimed his best qualifying result yet for Ferrari in P5.

Esteban Ocon sealed a brilliant sixth on the grid for Alpine and fell short of fifth spot by just 0.003s, with McLaren’s Lando Norris just behind in seventh.

Ferrari boys doing well in Q3

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was eighth ahead of AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly, while Sebastian Vettel enjoyed his best qualifying yet for Aston Martin as he made it into Q3 and took 10th.

Russell bounced back from his crash with Bottas at Imola with another superb Saturday display as he advanced to Q2 for the third time this season and claimed his best qualifying result for Williams in 11th, missing out on a first-ever Q3 appearance by just 0.057s.

12th place went the way of Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi, who outpaced Fernando Alonso as the two-time world champion failed to join his Alpine teammate in Q3.

After crashing out in qualifying at Imola, Yuki Tsunoda put his AlphaTauri into Q2 on his way to taking 14th, ahead of the second Alfa Romeo of Kimi Raikkonnen, who was left frustrated by traffic.

Daniel Ricciardo was the biggest scalp of Q1 as the McLaren driver had a scrappy lap while others improved to knock the Australian out in the opening part of qualifying for the first time since the 2019 Japanese Grand Prix.

Despite running upgrades on his Aston Martin, Lance Stroll was unable to progress from the first segment of qualifying and finished a lowly 17th, ahead of only Nicholas Latifi’s Williams and the Haas rookie duo that were once again headed by Mick Schumacher.

Russell misses out on maiden Mercedes pole by 0.02s as Bottas stamps his authority in Sakhir

Valtteri Bottas pipped his substitute Mercedes team mate George Russell to pole position for the Sakhir Grand Prix by just 0.026s, as the Silver Arrows set a scintillating pace in qualifying, with the top 10 separated by less than a second.

George almost took Pole at Sakhir GP

It was Russell, standing in for Lewis Hamilton who tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of the weekend, who looked the quicker of the two cars on Friday, but Bottas found more pace on Saturday to set up a thrilling showdown in Bahrain.

Bottas was quickest on his second run – first on soft tyres – with Russell slotting into second, but it was the Briton who was lighting up the timesheets on the final runs.

VALTTERI: "It's good to see George locking the front row.

Pole was within his grasp, but he ultimately missed out by a fraction of the second, and while P2 is his best-ever grid slot, defeat to Bottas means his run of 36 qualifying sessions having never been beaten by a team mate since his F1 debut is over.

GEORGE: "Really pleased but gutted to miss out on pole.
Max was really really close to the Mercedes cars

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was their closest challenger, 0.030s further back, in what was an incredibly close session on F1’s shortest circuit.

Charles had a sublime lap putting him on P4

Charles Leclerc did just one run. However, it was good enough for a remarkable fourth for the fourth time this season.

What a lap that was!!!
That’s P4 for tomorrow, let’s see what we can do from there pic.twitter.com/aCmPeNQGVZ
— Charles Leclerc (@Charles_Leclerc) December 5, 2020

It’s déjà vu for Sergio Perez, who is running an old spec engine after suffering a failure that cost him a podium last time out in Bahrain, after he qualified fifth for the second successive week, one place ahead of AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat whose P6 is his best since the 2019 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo was the best-placed Renault in seventh, just edging out McLaren’s Carlos Sainz. AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly and the Racing Point of Lance Stroll closing out the top 10.

Sakhir GP Quali Classification

We are in for a very interesting race tomorrow. It is a relatively short circuit. There will be 87 laps. A podium finish was George would be amazing. The race however would be much more challenging than the quali.

Max Verstappen hinted he could be a thorn in the side of Mercedes in Bahrain in final practice, but when it mattered the Silver Arrows came to the fore, with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton dominating every segment of qualifying to take a stunning pole position.

Mercedes dominate Bahrain

The Mercedes driver was pegged to just 0.146s by Verstappen after the first runs in Q3, suggesting there could be a tight battle. But Hamilton improved by another quarter of a second on his final run, pushing pole out of reach of his rivals to take his 98th career P1 start.

His team mate Valtteri Bottas popped up into second, the Finn at a loss to explain why he simply wasn’t a threat to Hamilton throughout the session, but he did at least ensure Mercedes lock out the front row for the fifth consecutive season in Bahrain and 75th time in the team’s history.

Red Bulls occupy the second row

Verstappen was forced to settle for third, though he can take comfort from starting on the cleaner side of the grid, the Dutchman suggesting the team’s greater focus in setting the car up was on the race, with tyre degradation expected to be crucial on Sunday evening.

Although he was six tenths of a second off the pace of his team mate. Racing Point’s Sergio Perez popped up into fifth, having reached Q3 for the first time since 2014.

Daniel Ricciardo was slowest of all after the first runs. But he protected his tyres on a slow out lap before pumping in the sixth fastest time. He qualified in the top six for the fifth time in the last six Grands Prix. His team mate Esteban Ocon ended up seventh.

Pierre Gasly was eighth, with AlphaTauri team mate Daniil Kvyat 10th, as the Italian team reached Q3 with both cars for the second time in three races, with Lando Norris the best-placed McLaren in ninth, after his team mate Carlos Sainz suffered a mechanical problem that caused a spin and ended his qualifying early in Q2.

It was another difficult day for Ferrari. Both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel were knocked out in Q2. Seb came one place ahead of his team mate in 11th.

Hamilton wins wild race in Imola as Mercedes clinch seventh-straight constructors’ title

Lewis Hamilton spearheaded Mercedes claiming their record seventh consecutive constructors’ title at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, leading home team mate Valtteri Bottas and a delighted Daniel Ricciardo – but there was late race drama as Red Bull’s Max Verstappen retired from P2 after appearing to suffer a tyre issue, bringing out a Safety Car that led to a climactic race ending.

Unstoppable Mercedes

Bottas had enjoyed a strong start to the Imola race from pole position, leading into Turn 2 as Hamilton lost out to Verstappen on the run down to Tamburello on Lap 1 and moved to third.

But Mercedes’ decision to give Hamilton a long first stint paid dividends when Renault’s Esteban Ocon retired at the side of the track on Lap 29, the resultant Virtual Safety Car allowing Hamilton to pit from the lead – Bottas and Verstappen having boxed earlier in the race – and retain P1.

Unlucky Red Bull

But with 12 laps to go, Verstappen’s retirement at Villeneuve led to a full Safety Car, setting up a breathless final few laps of the race, which ultimately saw Hamilton hold on to win out from Bottas, while Ricciardo secured his second podium of the season for Renault after holding off a late charge from AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat, who finished a brilliant fourth as he fights for his F1 future.

Charles P5, Sergio misses podium

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc came home fifth, holding off the Racing Point of Sergio Perez, who’d gambled with a late stop under the Safety Car. The McLaren duo of Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris claimed P7 and P8, while it was a fantastic day for Alfa Romeo, who took their first double points finish of the year, Kimi Raikkonen leading Antonio Giovinazzi in P9 and P10, the Finn having made a 49-lap stint work to his advantage.

Engine Failure for Gasly. Kvyat P4.

Meanwhile, after a brilliant effort to qualify P4, AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly suffered a coolant leak that forced him to retire from the race on Lap 8 – while in a bizarre incident, Williams’ George Russell spun into retirement under the Safety Car on Lap 53.

Mercedes supremacy at IMOLA

For Mercedes, though, there were scenes of jubilation, as they continued to re-write the F1 history books with an amazing seventh consecutive constructors’ title.

Bottas beats Hamilton to take pole at Imola as Verstappen survives Q2 scare to take 3rd

Beating Lewis Hamilton is no easy feat these days, but his Mercedes team mate Valtteri Bottas found a way to do just that at Imola as he took a sensational pole position for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Mercedes in a different league!

The Finn trailed Hamilton by just 0.031s after the first runs, but having topped both opening segments of qualifying, Bottas found the time when it mattered, lighting up the timesheets to take pole by 0.1s.

Gasly shines again!

Pierre Gasly, announced at AlphaTauri for 2021 ahead of the weekend, was in scintillating form all afternoon, the Frenchman comfortably in the top four throughout and crossing the line to end up fourth quickest to equal his career best start.

Consistent Ricciardo. Ocon fumbles.

Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo was fifth, his fourth top-five start this season, ahead of Alexander Albon who seemed unhappy with the car, but found a way to at least start inside the top six, albeit it 0.4s adrift of team mate Verstappen.

Charles pushes Ferrari in their home race

Charles Leclerc couldn’t repeat his heroics of the last couple of races, but the Ferrari driver was still a solid seventh with Daniil Kvyat making a rare appearance in Q3 for AlphaTauri.

Average McLaren

The McLarens didn’t have the pace to compete in the final shootout, with Lando Norris edging ahead of team mate Carlos Sainz for only the second time in the last eight races to complete the top 10.

George Russell was impressive again, jumping into Q2. Sebastian Vettel failed to impress. He is having a very dismal season. Racing Point were surprisingly out of touch today. Both Perez and Stroll failed to get into Q3.
