Monaco Quali: Max narrowly on Pole
Max Verstappen narrowly gets his first pole at Monaco, pipping Alonso to P2. Charles got P3 but he got a 3 place grid penalty.
Mighty Max at Monaco
Max is in the form of his life, driving the best car on the grid. However things were not as smooth in Monaco. While he did well in the practice sessions, the Pole position was not guaranteed. In fact it was only in the last sector of the final round of Q3 that he managed to find three tenths of a second and narrowly pipped Alonso to get the pole. This is his first pole at Monaco and he would be expecting to convert it to a solid win.
The Quali session in Monaco is more exciting than the race. The session started with Sergio Perez crashing his mighty Red Bull in the barrier and end his quali session. He would be starting last on the grid. Compare and contrast this with Max who will be starting from Pole. As the only person right now who is competing with Max for the Championship, he would be bitterly disappointed, especially since it is extremely difficult to overtake at the narrow lanes of Monaco.
Alonso in top form
Alonso at 41 just seems relentless. He almost got the pole position, if not for the crazy last sector by Max. Aston Martin is performing way above expectation and Alonso is enjoying every moment of it. His team-mate did not have a great day and he will be starting P14.
Another dud from Ferrari
Yet another session where Ferrari just couldn’t put everything together. Charles LeClerc threw his car but only managed to get P3. Worse still, he got a three place grid penalty for hindering Lando Norris and will be starting P6. Carlos Sainz looked good but then couldn’t convert when it mattered he will be starting P4.
Mercedes upgrades but no performance
Mercedes finally got the sidepods after more than a year but it did not result in any performance upgrades. Lewis Hamilton struggled massively with the car but still managed to get a P5. George struggled as well and he will be starting P8.
Meanwhile Ocon pulled off a surprise performance out of nowhere to start P3 tomorrow. Gasly too went to Q3 and will be starting P7. Tsunoda did well to get into Q3 and will be P9. Lando Norris just managed to get into Q3 after his crash and will be starting P10.
