Spain GP: Max winner, Merecedes P2, P3

Max Verstappen grabs a smooth victory in Spain. Mercedes showing the race with Lewis getting P2 and George P3.

Sublime Max in Spain

The top form continues. Max is a driver in top form driving the best car on the grid. Spain was no exception. Max got a good start and although he had to fight a bit with Carlos, given that he was Mediums and Carlos of Softs, he came out ahead after turn 1. Since then there was no looking back. Max was a bit uncomfortable on the hards and even got a Black and White flag for exceeding track limits. Everything was under control though and Max easily cruised to victory without any hiccups.

The other Red Bull driver Sergio Perez had a much better race as compared to Quali. Starting from P11 Sergio slowly made his way up using the DRS on the straights. However he ran out of tyres and time to overtake the Mercs, eventually settling for P4. It was decent race but he would be expecting more. The title challenge seems to be slipping away.

Mercedes find race pace in Spain

Mercedes is certainly the happiest team after the race. Lewis started the race at P4 and had a minor scuffle with Lando, which broke his front wing but things were fine for Lewis. The Mercedes race pace was such that he could comfortably overtake Carlos in Ferrari and finish P2 in the race. The upgrades seem to be working, at least for the race. George Russell meanwhile stormed through from P12 and finished on the podium. He must be delighted especially after the horrible Quali session. The gap between Red Bull and Mercs is just too much, although the Silver Arrows would be looking to close it down as much as possible.

Ferrari lost their way

Carlos Sainz starting from the front row in front of his home crowd couldn’t keep the Mercs behind him. He made no mistake and the strategy was correct but the race pace was not there. He finished P4, at least two places behind the expected P2. Charles LeClerc after the disastrous Quali session, started from the pits. But he was unable to overtake cars easily and struggled to move ahead in the grid. The tyre degradation was too much and there was no race pace. He ended up a lowly P16. Ferrari have a lot of work to do.

Aston Martin a bit slow

Spain was where everyone hoped Alonso would shine. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case to be. Alonso starting from the back struggled to move up the grid. Tyre degradation was just too much. He could have pushed harder but eventually decided to settle behind his team-mate in P7, with Stroll at P6.

Both the Alpine drivers struggled but ended up in points. Zhou Guanyu did a decent job to finish P9.
