Styrian Quali : Max on Pole for home race
Max Verstappen clinches Pole position at the home Styrian GP for Red Bull Racing. Lewis will be starting on front row with him.
Max Verstappen gave it all and clinched the Pole Position in his first run of Q3. Valterri Bottas of Mercedes came in P2 but he a 3-grid penalty and so will be be moving down. Therefore P3 Lewis Hamilton will be starting from the front row of the grid.
Max looked in sublime touch in all the practice sessions and was leading Q1,Q2 and Q3. Meanwhile Mercedes looked on and off, they are not that behind but they need to play the catch up. Lewis was unable to stitch a nice lap in the end. Valtteri did a good job, doing better than Lewis but still could not beat Max. The other Red Bull driver Sergio Perez looked a bit out of touch, after a good show in the last two race. He managed a decent P5 but Red Bull would be expecting more from him.
Great Lap by Lando
Lando Norris managed to stitch together a fantastic lap and will be starting P3 tomorrow. He looked in good touch in all the practice session. His other much experienced team mate Danny Ric had a bad Quali session and will be starting P13. He just isn’t able to get a hang of the 2021 McLaren car.
Pierre Gasly has been a consistent performer in 2021, that Honda engine working beautifully for him. He will be starting P6. This time his team mate, the young Yuki Tsunoda also joined the party, he will be starting P8.
Not a great day for Ferrari boys.
In all there were 7 teams in the top 10. So many team mates had contrasting fortunes. Ferrari didn’t look good at all in the practice sessions and it showed in Quali. Charles LeClerc just managed to squeeze into Q3, starting P7 tomorrow. But Carlos couldn’t get in Q3 and will be P12.
In a shocker, Esteban Ocon was not able to move into Q2 and will be P17. It is even more surprising given that he just got a long term contract from Alpine. Meanwhile his team mate, the two time World Champion put in a spectacular show, moving into Q2 and then Q3, starting P9 tomorrow.
Mixed results for Aston Martin too. Sebastian Vettel could not move into Q3 and will be P14 tomorrow. But the other Aston driver Lance Stroll did much better, managing to get into Q3 and will be starting P10.
George Russell just misses Q3
Mr. Saturday George Russell narrowly missed out on Q3. He was P10 for a brief moment but then Alonso pipped him to that position. It is long time coming, Williams is getting better by the day, but then George will have to wait for some more time to get in Q3. Let’s hope he at least scores some points for Williams something that he has been wishing and hoping for, for a long time.
