Mexico GP: Max Pole, Mercedes 1-2
2022 World Champion Max Verstappen took the Pole at the high altitude Mexico GP. Mercedes doing well, George at P2 and Hamilton P3.
Mighty Max at Mexico
Max Verstappen is not resting on his laurels after winning at World Championship. Red Bull seemed a bit shaky at the high altitude Mexico GP. They have stated that their focus now is on the 2023 season and all the development energy is focused on next year. Still the current Championship winning is not bad. Max pulled out the most in Q3 session to get the Pole. He will be starting from the front with the Championship winning number 1 and his Golden helmet.
Home hero Sergio Perez had high hopes to get a Pole but due to some electrical issue could not extract everything from the car. He will be disappointed with his P4 finish but would be hoping for a race win in front of his home crowd.
Mercedes in good touch at Mexico
Mercedes form has been swinging up and down all the season, although never close to challenging for wins. This is the closest they have got to fighting for wins, however it is too late in the season. Both George Russell and Lewis Hamilton performed very well in the practice sessions. But then mighty Max stole the show in Q3 session to take the Pole. Still Mercedes would be very happy with the 2-3 start and hoping to get ahead of Max at turn 1 of the start.
Lackluster Ferrari
Ferrari seems a bit of touch at Mexico. They couldn’t find the right balance. Grip was already missing due to the high altitude of the track. Charles had a nasty accident in FP2 session and never looked in good touch. He will be starting P7 and his team-mate Carlos Sainz Jr P5. Ferrari would want to finish the season on a high and carry the momentum to next season but it doesn’t seem to be happening, at least in Mexico
Valtteri Bottas made a surprising come back at Mexico and placed his Alfa Romeo between the two Ferraris at P6. Lando Norris did a respectable job and will be starting P8. The two Alpines took the remaining two places in top 10 – Alonso at P9 and Ocon P10.
Daniel Ricciardo would be disappointed to have just missed Q3. So would Zhou Guanyu. Tsunoda and Gasly will be started P13 and P14. The last six positions were filled by the usual suspects from HAAS, Aston Martin and Williams.
