Hungary GP : 1st 2026 win for Lando

Lando Norris got his first 2026 win, in Hungary. Max came P2 with a superb drive and Kimi was P3.

Norris sneaked in a surprise Pole on Saturday when the Ferraris were looking very good in all the practice session. McLaren had got the upgrades and it was good to see them perform. However it was not a smooth sailing for Lando. He lost the lead in the first lap and it was Oscar who was leading the race in the first half.

Things did not turn out well for Oscar though. Despite having a pitstop call the strategy did not work out well for him. Then he had a very unfortunately collision with the lapped car Carlos Sainz to lose valuable seconds and eventually his gearbox failed. So the race went from good to bad to worse. Lando meanwhile kept his calm. He was the fastest driver in clean air and made it work well for himself. This was his first win as a World Champion and is still far behind in the current driver’s Championship.

Another penalty for Lewis in Hungary

Another 5 seconds penalty for Lewis. Another weekend when things started solidly on Friday but did not work out on Sunday. A P5 finish is not what Lewis had expected. 0.1km/hr was the speeding over charge in the pitlane. Even that too just cost 5 seconds and P4 position. He should have been on the podium but could not convert. Charles had a decent race but not the pace of Lewis Hamilton. Ferrari need to work hard if they want to fight for the Championship. They a 70 points behind Mercedes which is not a lot given that half the season is still there.

Max magic in Hungary

One more race where Max was unhappy with the car but still managed to finish P2. His overtake on Lewis was surreal and managed the pace well to finish P2. Isack worked decently to finish P6.

Mercedes would be ruing a bad weekend. George got a horrible start to end up far back on the first lap, eventually finishing P7. Kimi did not have the leader pace as he normally did this season. P3 was to ensure that the damage was not bad. Mercedes cannot take things for granted. The Championship is wide open.

Nico Hulkenburg got his first points this season as he finished P9. Liam was P8 and Arvid P10.
