Baku GP : George dominates

George Russell completely dominates the Baku GP. Max finishes P2 and Isack P3. Championship leader Kimi finished P5.

George dominates Baku GP

George Russell was in the form of his life the entire weekend as he got his first Grand Slam at Baku. This is not an easy track but George was simply a notch above others. Kimi was lacking in pace in all the practice sessions. Then in an effort to push hard, he ran into a wall and had to start the race from P16. From then it was a recovery drive till the end. He managed to keep things clean and finished a respectable P5. This is actually not bad for him. No driver will have all the race weekend in top form. Then there are also unfortunately circumstances like car failures and collisions for no fault of yours. In such a case you have to accept the reality and try to recover as much as possible. No point going super-aggressive and ending up in the wall. Instead score as much points as possible and reduce the gap to the leader.

George seems to have found his mojo after the summer break but then is it too late this season? He was in good form in Monza but then Kimi was just sublime there. Here he was at another level. Now the gap Kimi has reduced to 66 points. The next race is not that far in Sepang and both the Merc drivers would be looking forward to it.

Red Bull domination in Baku

Red Bull should be mighty happy especially with their power train given that this is their first season building an engine of their own. Max was in top form in the practice sessions but the Quali did not go well for him. However the race pace was top notch and only George was better than him. He deserved the P2 position and looked menacing in Baku.

Isack had a very good return from injury. He was close to Max in all the practice sessions and had a better Quali session. Even in the race he was close to the top three throughout. Then Oscar went wide and Isack got the P3 position. Red Bull would be very happy given that this weekend they extended Isack’s contract for 2027.

Hit and miss for Ferrari

Charles LeClerc was in good form and got a P2 in Quali. However the race pace was missing and he finished P4. Lewis also did not have the pace and he finished P6. McLaren had a miserable weekend despite bringing a ton of upgrades and a having a top notch car. Lando was not in the groove the entire weekend. Oscar was in good form and maintained P3 for most of the race. However a single slip up meant he ran wide and out of the point scoring positions.

Arvid scored a decent P7. Both the HAAS finished in points at P8 and P9. Carlos got the last point at P10.
