Austria GP: Max wins 5 consecutive races

There is no stopping Max Verstappen as he wins his 5th consecutive race here in Austria. Charles LeClerc managed to hold on to P2 and Checo did a great job to finish P3.

Mega Max in Austria

The grandstands were full of fans wearing orange coloured t-shirts, supporting their favourite, Max Verstappen. And he did not disappoint. It was another of those flawless weekends. Max was P1 in Quali and P1 in Sprint. LeClerc did try to mount a challenge for the first few turns when the race started. But once when Max moved ahead, there was no going back. So confident was Max that he took the risk with 23 seconds gap to LeClerc, to put on the softs and go for the fastest lap. He is way ahead of others in the Championship and pretty much the 2023 trophy in his bag.

His team mate Sergio Perez was starting from P15, after struggling with track limits in the Quali session. He did have the race and was able to move ahead swiftly. But then Carlos Sainz put in a strong fight, ensuring that his team-mate LeClerc could snatch P2. Checo needs the confidence to moving on if RedBull wants to be as comfortable in Constructor’s Championship as Max is in Drivers.

Good weekend for Ferrari

Ferrari seems to have got some of the mojo back, although they are still off the pace as compared to Red Bull. Charles LeClerc put in another of his brilliant quali laps to get P2. Thankfully the race pace was good too this time and he managed to hold onto P2. He must have felt good being back on the podium after a long time. His team-mate meanwhile had a brilliant race but was unlucky when it mattered. He held strong in P3 position but Ferrari strategy meant that he had to climb back from behind. Then Sergio came racing from behind and Sainz had no answer to him. To make matters worse Sainz got a 5 second penalty for exceeding track limits and he was moved to P6 after the race.

Aston lacking pace

Aston Martin has had a great season so far, especially Alonso. However they lacked the pace In Austria. Alonso finished P5 and Stroll P9. Lando meanwhile had a great race in Austria. It seems that the upgrades are working and he finished P4. His team-mate Piastri was unlucky though and finished way behind. The Mercedes did not have the pace to mount any challenge to Red Bull, Ferrari or even to Aston Martin. Lewis fought hard but managed to finish P8 after the penalties. Russell finished P7. Pierre Gasly took the final P10 positions.
