Turkish GP: Bottas wins, Red Bull P2, P3

Valtteri Bottas wins the wet Turkish GP with the two Red Bulls coming in at P2 and P3. Max regains Championship lead.

Dominant Bottas at Turkish GP

Valtteri Bottas drove a faultless race in tricky wet conditions to win the 2021 Turkish GP. He started from Pole and was in control throughout the race. As he said it himself – it was one of his best race ever. The outgoing Mercedes driver ensured to not only win the race but also got the fastest lap. Mercedes thus continuing to lead the Constructors standing by a big margin.

Happy Red Bull

Red Bull had a special livery this weekend to celebrate their association with Honda. The two Red Bulls in special white colours finished P2 and P3. Max started the race P2 and finished in the same position. He just didn’t have the pace to catch up the raging Mercedes of Bottas. The conditions were very tricky and no one except Vettel even tried to get on the slicks throughout the race. Any slight mistake could have been very dangerous. So it was best to play the safe game, bring home the cars and get the points. Thanks to Lewis finishing in P5, Max regains the Drivers Championship lead, albeit by only 6 points.

Meanwhile Sergio Perez had a perfect drive and finished on the podium, something that Red Bull expects from him on a regular basis. He managed the pace well and ensured to keep Lewis behind him as much as possible. He once his tyre management skills once again and would be looking forward to all the races in the Americas, especially his home race in Mexico.

Lewis spectacular but missed on strategy

Thanks to the 10-place grid penalty, Lewis Hamilton started P11, after being the fastest in the Quali yesterday. As the race started he charged quickly through the field but was held for a few places by Tsunoda and then by Perez. He was managing his pace extremely well on those worn-out Inters and had reached till P3, but then his team called him in, against his wishes, putting him in P5. There wasn’t much left in the race to recover from that position. He would be disappointed to not finish on the podium.

Ferrari boys did well

Carlos Sainz started from the back of the grid and charged super quickly till P11. But then he struggled moving forward and yet finished P8. He was voted the ‘Driver of the Day’.

Charles Leclerc drove a fantastic race too and managed to stay in P3 position for most of the race and even lead the race of few laps. Eventually he lost the position to Perez but still would be very happy with P4.

Gasly had a first lap collision with Alonso and was thus awarded a 5 second penalty. Still he managed to finish P6, gaining some valuable points. Lando Norris had a quiet race and would be content with P7. Stroll and Ocon finished P9 and P10 respectively.
