Hungary GP: Max snatches win, Ferrari Flounder

Max stormed through the grid to win a sensational race in Hungary. Mercedes make it P2 and P3. Ferrari flounder a fantastic opportunity.

Invincible Max at Hungary

The 2021 World Champion and the current Championship leader is in the form of his life. Starting P10, Max stormed through the grid, quickly overtaking in his superior Red Bull. His team provided excellent strategy and made the right calls at the right time. Nothing seemed to have stopped the flying Dutchman, not even a 360 degree spin. In the end he comfortably won the race and extended his Championship lead by a big margin. Max would be very happy going into the summer holidays. His team-mate Sergio Perez had a lacklustre race but still finished P5.

Mercedes revival in Hungary

The Silver Arrows keep saying that they are close to unlocking their car’s potential and now they seem to have done it. George Russell starting from Pole couldn’t keep the Ferrari behind him in the beginning of the race and then had to move behind Max and Hamilton. He would still be happy to finish on the podium. Lewis Hamilton showed some stunning pace, storming ahead from P7, preserving his tyres, overtaking many including his team-mate George Russell and finished P2. This is his 5th consecutive finish on the podium and back to back double podium for Mercedes. It will not be a big surprise if Mercedes surpass Ferrari in the latter half of the Championship to finish second.

Ferrari fumbles, again!

Ferrari just can’t seem to get anything right. Ever since Australia they have been bumbling and fumbling their way, giving up the title fight easily. Be it reliability issues, strategy errors or simply driver mistakes – something or the other ensures that the Prancing Horse stumbles. Hungary GP was the perfect opportunity for Ferrari to gain advantage and close the gap to Red Bull. Red Bulls were starting P10 and P11 whereas Ferrari were P2 and P3. A Ferrari 1-2 was very much expected. Alas Ferrari messed up their strategy. Forget 1-2, not a single Red driver finished on the podium.

The race started well and Carlos overtook George in a reasonably good time. But then the charging Red Bull of Max had to be covered and so they decided to go long for Charles and Carlos pitted. After the long stint Charles was given Hard tyres which proved to be an absolute disaster. He had no grip and was soon overtaken by the Mercs and the Red Bulls. By the time he was pitted again and fitted with the Softs it was already too late. He finished a pitiful P6 and Carlos P4.

Double points for Alpine

Both the Alpine drivers finished in points – Ocon P8 and Alonso P9, despite having some friction on the track and being fitted with Hards which were quiet uncomfortable. Lando doing an impressive job as ever finished P7. Sebastian Vettel took the final point in P10.
