Qatar GP : Max wins another, Oscar P2

Max has another of those smooth races, this time in Qatar. McLaren continue their good form, this time Oscar gets P2 and Lando P3.

Another smooth victory for Max, in Qatar

Max continues with his indomitable form and Qatar was no exception. He started on the Pole, got a good start, and then did not look back. The gap to McLarens was much less than anticipated but then Max was never in an uncomfortable position at any time of the race. Having closed the Constructors as well as Drivers championship, the entire focus of Red Bull is now on the next season. Max however still has the hunger and we do not expect any lack in pace and effort for the next five races.

The other Red Bull driver Sergio Perez had another weekend to forget. He had to play the catch up game this time too and while trying to move up he got caught in a 3-way clash with the HAAS and the Alpine. This greatly reduced his chances of moving further up and he finished in P9.

It was a tough race for everyone. The heat and the humidity was killing. Logan Sergeant had to retire as he was feeling unwell in the extreme circumstances. Pirelli had to intervene and limited a maximum of 18 laps per set of tires. This made things interesting and everyone had to pit at least 3 times during the race.

It was another great race for the McLarens, finishing in P2 and P3. But it was Oscar’s weekend this time. Had won the Sprint race, Oscar continued with a great pace. Starting P6 he moved up quickly at the race start and was comfortable in the P2 position. Towards the end Lando was crouching up to him but he managed to hold on to the P2 position. Lando did a great job too, starting from P10, stayed away from all the carnage and secured a third podium back-to-back. The McLaren would be very happy with the result. However it feels that Lando is a bit threatened with Oscar’s meteoric rise. The situation is still manageable though.

Mercedes boys colliding in Qatar

The worst that could happen to any team i.e the two drivers crashing into each other, happened for Mercedes. Lewis started on the softs and George on the mediums. Lewis got a good start and got ahead of George, almost. As he tried to close the gap and secure P2, George had no where to go. Lewis touched George and this sent him spinning in the gravel and ended his race. George had to pit and was P18 after the first lap. However he had a spectacular recovery drive and finished P4. Lewis later apologized to George and he would be hoping for a better finish in the last 5 races and try to come second in the driver’s championship.

Ferrari had another weekend to forget. Carlos Sainz had fuel leak issues and he couldn’t start the race. Charles didn’t have the pace to challenge McLaren or even the Mercs. He finished P5. Alonso finished a respectable P6. Both the Alfa Romeos finished in points, Bottas P8 and Zhou P10.
