Singapore GP : Lando wins comfortably
Lando wins the Singapore GP comfortably as his main rival Max Verstappen finishes P2. Oscar scored the final podium position
Lando dominates Singapore
It was an absolute domination at Singapore by the young British driver Lando Norris. McLaren had the fastest car as seen in all the practice session. Lando has been blamed multiple times for not getting the start right or for bottling easy victories. Not in Singapore. He started from Pole position and was comfortably ahead at the first corner. Then he kept on increase the gap to Max and finished the race more than 20 seconds ahead of Max. He did have a few brushes with the barrier as there was a lapse in concentration due to the immense heat and humidity of Singapore but he managed to get the car home safely. The gap between him and Max is still a yawning 51 points but McLaren have take a comfortable lead in the Constructors Championship.
Oscar had a good recovery drive too. His qualifying was not that good as he was on P5 despite having the fastest car. Still he did all the right things to overtake the Mercs but couldn’t close the gap to Max in the end. A podium finish is still very good and he got some good points for the team.
Max recovery in Singapore
Max Verstappen has a comfortable lead in the driver’s championship but he knows that he doesn’t have the fastest car anymore. Still he pulled out every ounce of performance from the car and finished P2, while starting from the same position. If he drives decently then he will still finish as a World Champion but any DNF for whatever reason will cost him dearly.
Meanwhile his teammate Perez had another disappointing result. Starting from P13 after a bad quali he was stuck behind Colapinto for a long time and finally finished in the final point position P10. He has the seat literally because Red Bull has no other good option.
Decent Mercedes at Singapore
Singapore is a favourite hunting ground for Lewis and Mercedes. Lewis has pulled off stunning quali laps in the past and he did so this time with the starting position of P3 and P4 for George. However strategy hampered his race as he went for an early pitstop and couldn’t keep others from overtaking him as finished P6. Russell had a decent drive but was not match to the McLarens and Max. He finished a decent P4 too.
Ferrari fumble at Singapore
Things were looking good for Ferrari in the practice session but it went downhill in the Q3 session of quali. A crash by Carlos and a lap time deleted for Charles meant that they were starting from P10 and P9 respectively. From then it was all about a recovery drive. They had a solid race pace in practice but still finished P5 and P7.
Alonso drove a gritty race to finish P8. Hulkenburg was simply fantastic to finish P9 while Colapinto just missed the points in P11.
